Vocational Training Fund
In addition to two perpetual academic scholarships that allow two students from the Berry islands to go to the College of the Bahamas every year (established in 2000 and managed by the Lyford Cay Foundation), the Vocational Training Fund is aimed at providing an annual grant for an R.N. Gomez School graduate to enroll in a full time vocational training course at BTVI in Nassau where he or she will obtain a professional qualification on completion.
In the first year 2013/14 the board, together with the school, chose not to allocate the funds to one student, but contributed to a sixteen week-end course given by BTVI on the island which allowed over 20 young people to participate and gain exposure to carpentry, plumbing, tiling, and electrical skills. The result was that several went on to enroll at BTVI in September for an annual course at their own expense.
The suggested contribution from Association members is $50 per year.
